People gather in front of the Knapp’s Centre in downtown Lansing to play a new release of Pokemon Go Sunday, July 23, 2017.

With their heads down, staring at smart phone screens, people roamed downtown Lansing Sunday afternoon in hunt of newly released Pokemon.

Pokemon players took to the streets after yesterday's "Pokemom Go" launch of the Legendary characters. And downtown Lansing is a hotbed.

"Lansing is full of gyms and poke stops," explained Drew Dutton, 39, from Perry. Dutton plays the game with multiple members of his family and enjoys the exercise.

People were coming and going throughout the afternoon in front of the Knapp's Centre. At one time up to 20 players converged at the corner of South Washington Square and Washtenaw Street to participate in a raid to capture a highly prized Pokemon.

The crowd was self-regulated to about 20 people at one time - 20 being the maximum number of successful captures at one time at one location, said Dutton.
