LANSING - More than a decade after his conviction for child abuse, a former Lansing resident has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the same incident.

Marcus Oglesby, 33, of Runnemede, New Jersey, was found guilty by a jury in 2003 of second-degree child abuse of his 8-month-old daughter, according to court records.

Keyaria Oglesby suffered bleeding in her brain and, as a result would never walk, talk, hear or be able to swallow or feed herself, Catherine Emerson, an assistant Ingham County prosecutor, told the jury in 2003 during closing arguments.

"In fact, this child is just living dead," she said at the time.

Oglesby was released from prison in October 2006, after serving more than three years.

Keyaria died in 2015 in Bay County, and an autopsy determined that her death arose from circumstances related to the abuse, officials said.

Marcus Oglesby was charged with homicide seven months later.

In August, a district court judge bound him over to Ingham County's 30th Circuit Court on a second-degree murder charge.

As part of a deal with prosecutors, Oglesby last week pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

In exchange, prosecutors agreed to request he serve 6 to 15 years in prison, said Lisa McCormick, Ingham County's chief assistant prosecutor.

Because this conviction involves the same act, prosecutors will give Oglesby credit for the time already served on the child abuse charge, she said.

A sentencing hearing is set for July 19.
