LANSING - Police say three people were shot, one fatally, Saturday afternoon inside a barbershop near the intersection of Kalamazoo and Shepard streets on Lansing's east side.

Two of the victims were transported to local hospitals by ambulance, and another victim showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

In a release Saturday evening, Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski said a Lansing man, 29, died as a result of his injuries.

The other two victims, an 18-year-old Lansing resident and a 23-year-old Detroit resident, suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, Yankowski said in the release.

No arrests have been made.

The incident occurred at Kutt II, a barbershop in the 1600 block of Kalamazoo Street. The neighborhood is north of Interstate 496 and west of U.S. 127.

William Bell, 51, who lives on the corner of Shepard and Kalamazoo, said his nephew was shot in the arm and the leg in the incident. He said he was in his basement when the shooting occurred and did not see the shooting.

Denise Rigotti, 58, who lives in the neighborhood, said she did not hear gunshots but came outside when she heard multiple sirens as police and emergency personnel arrived in the neighborhood.

Rigotti said she saw one person being put into an ambulance and rushed from the scene.

Michigan State Police are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Lansing Police Detective Andy Hogan at 483-6861, Lansing Police at 483-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 483-STOP (7867).
