LANSING - A couple of attempted larcenies prompted Nicolas Soria to install surveillance cameras at the rental home he shares with his girlfriend on North Pine Street in Lansing.

It paid off on Aug. 3, when the cameras captured a burglary in progress. The video shows a woman entering the home and leaving with stolen items. She also stole Soria's 2008 Pontiac G6 parked outside, Lansing police have said

Soria told the State Journal on Wednesday that police recovered the car about a week later and returned it to him Friday. The car's dash camera had been torn from the windshield, but he was able to retrieve the video it recorded and gave it to police, Soria said.

And he posted more than three dozen video clips on YouTube.

"I've had some people calling and asking when Season 2 will be," he said. "I've definitely never seen anything like it."

Soria, 26, said he installed the cameras after recent incidents in which people tried to break into cars at the duplex.

Lansing police Capt. Tom Fabus confirmed that police recovered the vehicle and processed it for evidence. Forensic testing is ongoing, and the investigation remains open, he said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Detective Ellen Larson at 483-6817.
