Lansing area Fourth of July celebrations

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, which means it’s the time of year for fireworks, grilling and enjoying time outdoors with friends and family.

Check out this list of many of the planned area Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks displays to help you celebrate Independence Day. Most events are scheduled for dusk on July 4, although some events take place on other days as noted.

• Bellevue Independence Day celebration: Fireworks will be set off between Bellevue Middle School and Bellevue Elementary School, along M-78 at dusk on July 4. The show will last approximately one hour. Parking is free. Visit www.bellevuemi.net for more information.

• City of Lansing Fourth of July celebration: A parade will step off at 11 a.m. on July 4 on Allegan Street and will march east to Capitol Avenue, north to Ottawa Street and will finish going west on Ottawa Street. The parade will be followed by clowns, antique and specialty automobiles, musicians, dance troops, community groups and military units at the Adado Riverfront Park. Fireworks will set off later in the evening. For more information, visit www.lansingmi.gov.

• Light up the River: This year, bring your L.E.D. lit kayak, canoe or paddleboat to the Grand River, in front of the Lansing City Market at 8 p.m. on July 4 to watch the City of Lansing fireworks. Bring your own boat or rent one from River Town Adventures. Sparklers and party favors will be provided. Free parking will be available at the Impression 5 Science Center.

• Corunna Fourth of July celebration: This year’s celebration will be held at McCurdy Park on July 4. The family friendly celebration will have live entertainment, a 5K run/walk, car show, bike decorating contest, tractor show, games, face painting, a petting zoo and pony rides and more, all leading up to fireworks at dusk. Parking is available at Elsa Meyer School. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.corunna4th.org.

• Delta Township Fireworks celebration: Visit Sharp Park, 1401 Elmwood Road, Lansing at 6:30 p.m. on July 3 for a concert at the amphitheater. Concession stands will be available for food, or you may bring your own cooler. Please note that a permit is required for alcoholic beverages and can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation Department. Fireworks will set off from the park at dusk. Parking at Sharp Park is designated for fireworks sponsors, however there will be several large parking lots nearby for spectators. For more information, visit www.deltami.gov or call 323-8555.

• Eaton Rapids July 4th celebration: Events taking place throughout downtown Eaton Rapids on July 4. There will be parade along Main Street at 11 a.m., followed by an arts and crafts show on Hamlin Street, Rotary Chicken BBQ, children’s pedal tractor pulls, a water ball contest held by the fire department and a beer tent on Hall Street. There will be fireworks at 10:15 p.m. at Howe Field followed by a movie. For more information, visit www.cityofeatonrapids.com.

• Fowlerville Fourth of July celebration and fireworks: The annual Fowlerville Fourth of July celebration will be held at the Fowlerville Fairgrounds on July 4. The parade will step off at 7 p.m. on Veterans Drive and continue east through the Village of Fowlerville. There will be children’s activities including bounce houses, face painting, cotton candy and games from 3-6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fowlerville, 214 S. Grand Ave., Fowlerville. Other events throughout the day include a car show, food vendors, live entertainment, children’s games and more. Fireworks will be set off at dusk. • Lansing Lugnuts Fourth of July fireworks: Fireworks will be set off from Cooley Law School Stadium following the Lugnuts’ game against the Dayton Dragons on July 4. For tickets, visit www.lansinglugnuts.com.

• Mason Fourth of July fireworks: The annual fireworks display will be held at the Ingham County Fairgrounds at dusk on July 4. The event is sponsored by the Dansville and Mason fire departments. For information, call 676-1046 or visit www.fb.ingham.org.

• CANCELED: Meridian Township Fourth of July fireworks

• Portland Fourth of July fireworks and parade: The Portland fireworks will be held at dusk July 3 at Portland High School. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. July 4. For information, visit www.portlandareachamber.com.

• St. Johns Rotary Fourth of July fireworks: The St. Johns Fourth of July celebration will be held at the St. Johns City Park on July 4. The band Life Support will kick off the celebration at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will set off as soon as it is dark enough, usually around 10 p.m. For information, visit www.rotaryclubofsj.org.

• St. Louis Fourth of July celebration: There will be events throughout St. Louis on Saturday, July 2. There will be a craft show, family activities and a concert at Clapp Park, a city wide garage sale, free swim at W.T. Morris Memorial Pool at Over The Mill Pond, located on North Mill Street.
