Officials release name of Lansing man killed in fire

LANSING – Officials on Monday released the name of the man who died last week in a house fire.

Victor Manuel Garcia, 30, was killed in the fire reported early Friday at a house in the 200 block of South Lathrop Street. Lansing fire officials have not released the cause of the blaze, but said it was accidental.

The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around midnight.

Neighbors said Garcia was trapped in the basement, where the fire is believed to have started. He died despite aggressive rescue attempts, officials said. Four others were able to escape.
