LANSING – Gov. Rick Snyder was involved in a minor traffic accident Tuesday, but was not injured, a spokesman said.

Dave Murray, a spokesman for the governor, said Snyder was a passenger in an SUV that was rear-ended early Tuesday afternoon while stopped at a light near M-59 and U.S. 23, near Hartland.

"He was not injured," and neither was anyone else in the unmarked Michigan State Police vehicle, Murray said.

Snyder "always wears a seat belt," and Tuesday was no exception, he said.

There was minor damage to the front end of the vehicle that struck the governor's and possibly minor damage to the state vehicle, he said.

The accident remains under investigation by the MSP's Brighton post but was likely weather-related, he said.

Snyder is scheduled to leave Wednesday on a weeklong trade mission to Asia.
