Taste of Okemos offers yummy food from local eateries

OKEMOS – It’s time once again for Taste of Okemos.

Now in its 15th year, this popular event combines the fun of sampling lots of yummy creations with the joy of supporting the Okemos High School’s vocal music program.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, Okemos will have the opportunity to enjoy food and drinks from 20 area restaurants while enjoying the jazzy sounds of MSU’s Rui Zhang Quintet.

Held in the OHS Commons from 2 to 4 p.m., vendors from Okemos and surrounding communities will offer selections ranging from traditional American cuisine to a variety of International fares, according to organizers of the fundraiser.

Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the event and allow one serving per restaurant. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and children aged 6-10 and $5 for children age 5 and under.

All proceeds from the fundraiser support the widely recognized high school program, led by OHS Vocal Music Director Claire Bellamy.

Last year’s event raised more than $6,000, which was used to purchase music, fund transportation to vocal performances throughout the state and provide for many other items which would have been unavailable due to budget cuts.

The volunteer parent organization, chaired this year by Benli Chai, works closely with the choir students to make this event possible. All of the OHS Choir students take responsibility for the event day duties including set-up, serving and cleaning up. Scott Rosenfeld Photography will return once again as the event photographer.
