In Frame: Sometimes the best photo happens after the assignment

State senator Mike Shirkey, right, walks along with veteran Bob Snow outside the Capitol Building on Thursday, May 26, 2016 in Lansing after the Senate Memorial Day Service.

When I walked out of the Capitol Building Thursday after the Senate Memorial Day Service to go back to the office to edit my photos, I noticed the two gentlemen in front of me walking arm in arm. They seemed to be talking intently, so I quickly shot a few frames and then asked for their names.

One of the gentlemen, Mike Shirkey, is a state senator. In politics it's sometimes hard to find a genuine moment. The service inside the State Senate Chambers was pretty run of the mill as far as memorial services go and there wasn't much interaction there. Many of the senators brought veteran guests with them, but they just sat next to the senators.

So this picture, after everything was done and I was leaving for the office, ended up being the best I had made all day. It was refreshing to have a genuine moment.
