Timothy Busfield joins MSU as artist in residence

EAST LANSING - Timothy Busfield, an Emmy award-winning actor with dozens of film and television credits to his name, will serve as an artist in residence at Michigan State University's College of Communication Arts and Sciences beginning this summer.

Busfield will help develop programming for MSU's public television station WKAR as well as co-teach courses on acting and fiction film production, said Prabu David, Dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences.

Busfield is committed to a one-year term at MSU, where he'll also help to introduce more arts-centered ideas to com arts students, David said.

Busfield's resume includes four years on the television show "Thirtysomething", which netted him an Emmy, as well as acting credits on more than a dozen other shows including "Without a Trace" and "The West Wing." He also has worked as a producer and director for several television programs.

Busfield comes home to East Lansing for acting workshop

The appointment is a homecoming for Busfield, who attended East Lansing schools when his father was a professor at MSU. Busfield and his wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, live in Howell.

Busfield officially starts on June 15.
