MASON - One person was seriously injured in a head-on crash that caused police to close part of U.S. 127 near Mason on Thursday afternoon.

Ingham County Sheriff's Sgt. Tim O'Neill said a northbound car driven by a man "shot across" the median and collided with a southbound car driven by a woman.

The man, who police believe was intoxicated, was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, O'Neill said. The woman apparently was not injured, he said.

One person was seriously injured in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. 127 near Mason.

The southbound lanes were closed at Kipp Road for nearly an hour after the 3:30 p.m. crash. Both cars were heavily damaged and needed to be removed on flat-bed trucks, O'Neill said

The names and ages of the two drivers were not released. They were alone in their vehicles, O'Neill said

The sergeant said alcohol and, possibly, other intoxicants may have been factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
