Beerfest at the Ballpark returns to Cooley Law School Stadium is Saturday.

Beerfest at the Ballpark returns to Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday, bringing adult beverages and live acoustic jams to the home of the Lansing Lugnuts.

Festival goers will have the chance to taste more than 250 craft beers from more than 50 Michigan breweries, plus Michigan ciders, meads and wines. Donny Brown of the Verve Pipe, the Black Barn Band and Mark Warner will rock the entertainment.

We caught up with Paul Starr, who heads up the festival and also founded beer website IAmaBeerHound.com, to get his recommendations for three Michigan summer beers to try this season. All three will be available at Beerfest at the Ballpark.

Lansing's craft beer scene is booming

Oatsmobile Ale, Bell’s Brewery

What: A session pale ale made with a mix of classic and modern Pacific Northwest hops.

Starr: “A new beer from Bell's, and the summer is a perfect time for a session pale ale.”

Peach Gruit Ale, Mountain Town Brewing Co.

What: A pale ale brewed with marsh rosemary, yarrow, myrtle and peach juice.

Starr: “This is great by itself, but it's also really good in a beermosa," i.e. mixed with orange juice.

Tangerino IPA, Frankenmuth Brewing Co.

What: An American IPA (India Pale Ale) and fruit beer combo.

Starr: “A perfect beer to cool you down on a 90 degree day.”
