LANSING — A reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for shooting a cat with a crossbow last weekend has been increased to $5,000.

The Capital Area Humane Society, which initially offered a $1,000 reward, posted the revised amount on its Facebook page on Friday.

"Booger," a young male tabby was found hiding beneath a deck Monday morning along Carlisle Highway in rural Eaton County, between Vermontville and Bellevue, with a crossbow bolt lodged in his chest cavity. The arrow has been removed, and the feline is recovering.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said it was hit by a crossbow bolt fitted with a target tip. Booger’s owner is an elderly woman who cannot afford veterinary care, they said.

Donations to help with the veterinary bill have been flowing in from around the nation, shelter officials said.

Anyone with information about the shooting incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 543-3512 or a tip line at 543-5433. Tips can be left anonymously, officials said. Donations can be made to CAHS’s special care and cruelty fund at http://cahs-lansing.org/index.php/special-care-fund.
