What are you doing for Valentine's Day this year?

Valentine's Day is just over a week away. Whether you’re in a romantic relationship or single, it’s time to start thinking about how to celebrate the heart-warming holiday or do something completely un-Valentine-ish. From a chocolate walk to underground film, here are five possibilities.

Un-Valentine’s Day show

Local roots artist and songwriter Jamie-Sue Seal is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her annual “The Un-Valentine's Show: Songs & Tales of Unforgiveness, Heartbreak, Dysfunction & Revenge” with a gig Friday, Feb. 5, at Christ United Church at 1000 West Webb Road in DeWitt.

Expect a night packed with hilarious anti-Valentine’s Day tales. Seal will appear with Ypsilanti singer-songwriter John Latini and Dexter musician Dave Boutette.

“This show is an annual tradition for happy couples as well as those folks who are a little perturbed with Cupid,” Seal said.

Tickets for the show cost $15 and are available online until 6 p.m. the day of the show via www.UnValentines.BrownPaperTickets.com. Tickets are also available at the door, while they last.

Yummy chocolate walk

Want to enjoy some sweet chocolate a few days before Valentine's Day? The annual Old Town Chocolate Walk happens from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, along Turner Street in downtown Old Town.

The walk takes participants through Old Town’s shops and restaurants, with gourmet chocolate available along the route. Each attendee will receive a box to pack with chocolate, a punch card and a map of the businesses taking part in the event.

This year’s event also includes a warming station at the Old Town Marquee.

Businesses taking part include Absolute Gallery, Bella Rio Salon, Cravings Gourmet Popcorn, Curvaceous Lingerie, Grace Boutique of Old Town, Great Lakes Artworks, MICA, The Old Town General Store, Old Town Marquee and Preuss Pets.

General admission tickets are $20 via www.otca.wildapricot.org.

Winter Warrior at Lansing Brewing Company

Are you up for the challenge of drinking craft beer on a patio in the middle of winter? We thought so. Winter Warrior happens at Lansing Brewing Company at 518 East Shiawassee Street in Lansing on Saturday, Feb. 6, with a patio party from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Other attractions include bonfire pits, an ice luge, ice sculptures, frosty iced mugs and drink specials.

The cost to get on the patio is $5. Proceeds will benefit the Cupid's Undie Run charity to help children with the debilitating genetic disorder neurofibromatosis (NF).

Salsa dancing in Lansing

If you can handle the hotness of salsa dancing, put Salsa Capital on your radar.

Salsa Capital meets on the second and fourth Fridays of the month at AA Creative Alley at 1133 South Washington Avenue in Lansing.

Friday, Feb. 12, brings a special Valentine’s Day edition with music from Lansing salsa band Havana N'Time.

The beginner’s class runs from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the intermediate class from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the open dance with Havana N'Time from 9 p.m. to midnight. Cover is $10 per person.

Underground film

Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum’s Broad Underground Film Series happens each month, offering underground movies that go beyond traditional movie and video technology.

This month’s theme is “Global Grooves and Visions,” presented by MSU faculty members Josh Yumibe and Connor Ryan with work from artists Shirin Neshat, William Kentridge and Nam June Paik. The viewing happens Friday, Feb. 12, at the museum, located at 547 East Circle Drive in East Lansing.
