BATH TWP. — Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash that prompted police to shut down eastbound Interstate 69 at Webster Road for around two hours on Wednesday evening.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. as traffic was slowing at the interchange for a construction zone, Bath Township police Sgt. Matt Mardigian said. One of the drivers didn't recognize that traffic was slowing and rear-ended another vehicle, forcing it to collide with a semi truck, he said. The first vehicle rolled during the crash.

The drivers of both passenger vehicles - women from DeWitt and Burton - were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Mardigian said. The truck driver was not injured.

Police closed the two eastbound lanes after the crash. Drivers were using an exit lane to get around the accident scene and continue on the freeway, but traffic was backed up nearly to the U.S. 127 interchange.
